International Scholarships at New College of the Humanities

Students who exhibit remarkable academic achievement and potential are eligible for a number of distinguished scholarships from the New College of the Humanities in the UK.

After Reading Week of their first term of study for the first year of study, the applicants chosen will receive awards totaling £500 from the New College of the Humanities.

The new college of the humanities provided undergraduate instruction in economics, English, history, law, philosophy, politics, and international relations through the University of London International Programme from September 2012 until September 2015. Starting in 2015, it offered its own degrees that were approved by Southampton Solent University. Along with its multiple combined BA and BSc degrees, students must successfully complete courses in applied ethics, critical reasoning, science literacy, and LAUNCH, its professional development program, in order to receive its "Diploma of New College of the Humanities."

In the UK, where the majority of higher education institutions are publicly funded, the college's foundation drew a sizable response as well as a large amount of negative press. The Times claimed that higher education has been a closed market in the UK for too long while London's mayor, Boris Johnson, praised it as a daring experiment. There was a backlash of rage from the intellectual community. There were complaints that NCH had duplicated the course descriptions of the international programs offered by the University of London on its website, was charging significantly more for the same curriculum, and that the senior academics involved in the project would actually only teach a small portion of the course material. The for-profit nature of the college and its expensive tuition were also criticized by academics.

A MA in historical research and public history with Swansea University validation was the first postgraduate degree that NCH announced it will start offering in September of 2016. Three additional master's degrees—the MA in Economic Policy & Communication, MSc in Global Politics, and MA in Philosophy—were introduced by the college in 2017. NCH received renewable teaching degree-awarding authority in February 2020 for a six-year initial duration. After NCH was registered by the Office for Students as a provider of publicly-funded higher education, these became indefinite in August 2020. NCH declared in 2021 that it would apply for university status and authorization to use the name Northeastern University - London after receiving indefinite degree giving powers.
